Novice
hit man Ray (Colin Farrell) bungles his first job in the worst possible
way. As punishment, Ray's high-strung, foul-mouthed boss Harry (Ralph Fiennes) banishes
him and his partner Ken (Brendan Gleeson) to the quaint Belgian
city of Bruges, ordering them to wait for further instructions (which
shall not be revealed here). For the older, wiser Ken, Bruges is a quaint place for
sight-seeing and R&R. But for Ray, it's just 'fuckin' Bruges, the
last place on earth he wants to be. Guilt-ridden and morose over his deed,
Ray contemplates suicide. Then he meets a beautiful young woman ...
but that's another subplot. Bruges is the capital and largest city in
the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, but it’s
far too small to contain all the problems these two schlubs create for
the locals and for themselves. This well- acted, dark comedy-tragedy is a
treat to eyes and ears, but be prepared to hear the f-word and its
derivatives 126 times, an average of 1.18 times per minute! Also be prepared to laugh and be repelled by some of the violence at the same time.
